2011 Old Vine Zinfandel

Winemaker Comments

After years of playing second fiddle to the so called “King” Cabernet, Zinfandel has finally become trendy, and this Lodi wine is Lodi Zinfandels undisputed champion. This Zinfandel fruit was hand selected from the first vineyard John Van Ruiten planted over 50 years ago and is among the families most prized grapes. Our 2011 Old Vine Zinfandel is packed full of blackberry, cherry and blueberry jam with barrel flavors contributing aromas of coffee, cedar, and finishing with anise.

2012 Cabernet Sauvignon
$18.99

2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Comments

Our Cabernet Sauvignon is hand-picked from John’s home ranch. These vines come from clone 337, which produces very small berries. The small berries produce a wine rich in color and tannin.

Inky black hue color of this sumptuous Cabernet gives way to expressive aromas of black cherry, cassis, and allspice. Aging in French oak barrels softens the otherwise firm tannins and introduces hints of vanilla and cedar on the palate. Luscious currants and pepper flavors are refined and balanced by a lingering finish. For all those who complain that Cab isn’t food-friendly, this one is. Ageability is almost guaranteed. Best now through 2020, with proper cellaring.

2010 Reserve 'Ancient Vine' Carignane

2010 Reserve 'Ancient Vine' Carignane

Winemaker Comments

SOLD OUT

Carignane was the most widely planted red varietal in France. It also is grown in Italy, Spain, Algeria and Israel. It once was the most planted variety in the new world. Today, only a few of the ancient Carignane vineyards remain in California. Traditionally, Carignane, has been used as a blending grape because of its excellent yields, great acidity, and firm tannins. Van Ruiten Family is one of a few wineries to vinify this varietal.

Our 2010 Ancient Vine Carignane hails from a 106 year old head trained vineyard. Only 180 cases were produced from this four acre vineyard. Its Dark ruby color opens to aromas of plum, raspberry, and spice. The old vine elicits a taste of Lodi terroir, dark blackberry and cherry fruit flavor with a long smooth tannin finish.

Winemakers Comments

This Zinfandel draws primarily from a wide selection of our oldest, most historic and shyest-bearing Zinfandel blocks. The vines are planted on their own roots. The lots that we hand-selected are the results of sensitive farming practices and the Fruit was discriminately picked.

The 2011 “Sideways Lot 69” Reserve Zinfandel shows wonderful raspberry, blackberry, currant, and walnut; with roasted coffee characters. Aging in French oak has lent this wine a subtle vanilla quality that nicely complements the explosive fruit notes.

Enjoy with your best cuts of beef and finest cheese.
