2012 Van Ruiten Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc

The grapes in our 2012 Sauvignon Blanc come from the great Rooster Vineyard in Lake County, north of Sonoma. The Sauvignon Blanc grape is a signature variety for Lake County; the region continues to impress critics with ideal growing conditions and soil compositions that allow for excellent fruit. A slow cold fermentation keeps this wine crisp and fruit-forward. Aromas of grapefruit and Meyer lemon are complimented by
luscious flavors of lemon-grass, lavender, and rosemary. Our Sauvignon Blanc is a wonderful aperitif or pair with oysters and shellfish.

Carignane was the most widely planted red varietal in France. It also is grown in Italy, Spain, Algeria and Israel. It once was the most planted variety in the new world. Today, only a few of the ancient Carignane vineyards remain in California. Traditionally, Carignane, has been used as a blending grape because of its excellent yields, great acidity, and firm tannins. Van Ruiten Family is one of a few wineries to vinify this varietal.

Our 2009 Ancient Vine Carignane hails from a 100 year old head trained vineyard. Only 300 cases were produced from this four acre vineyard. Its Dark ruby color opens to aromas of plum, raspberry, and spice. The old vine elicits a taste of Lodi terroir, dark blackberry and cherry fruit flavor with a long smooth tannin finish.

This medium-bodied Reserve Chardonnay is lush and round on the palate, while displaying the typical intensity of fruit and spicy oak aromas. Notes of creamy lemon bar and papaya are layered with subtle hints of hazelnut. While the finish is long and clean, the flavors become increasingly full and complex with time. Our experience is that these wines improve in the bottle for at least five years, although they can grow in complexity and depth for possibly ten years or more.

The practice of blending more than one variety of wine has been practiced in Europe for centuries and is the basis for our Cab-Shiraz. This full-bodied, yet very approachable blend is loaded with flavors of blackberries, cherries, currants, and plums; with a lengthy finish and just a hint of oak.

-NEW RELEASE- Aromas of sweet pineapple, peach and apricot blend together with barrel aromas of fig, honey and vanilla finishing with hints of white peach. Our “Chard” was hand picked and gently squeezed to allow the natural fruit character to shine through. Half of this Chardonnay was fermented in stainless steel and the other half was barrel fermented in small French oak barrels. They are then blended together to enhance the complexity of body, flavor and aroma.
